Configuration Item (CI) Details

The CI Details page provides a comprehensive view of individual Configuration Items in your IT infrastructure. This page allows you to view, edit, and analyze all aspects of a CI including its properties, relationships, collections, and AI-generated insights.

Overview

When you navigate to a CI's detail page (/cmdb/ci/:id), you'll see a tabbed interface organizing different aspects of the CI:

  • Details Tab: Core CI information and properties
  • Collections Tab: Data collections associated with the CI
  • Relationships Tab: Connections to other CIs
  • AI Insights Tab: AI-generated analysis and recommendations
  • Audit History Tab: Change tracking and history

Details Tab

The Details tab displays all the CI's properties organized by category:

Basic Information

  • Name: The display name of the CI
  • CI Type: Classification (e.g., Server, Software, Network Device)
  • Status: Current operational status (Active, Maintenance, Inactive)
  • Description: Detailed description of the CI
  • Location: Physical or logical location
  • Environment: Deployment environment (Production, Development, Test)

System Information

  • Serial Number: Hardware serial number
  • Asset Tag: Internal asset tracking number
  • Operating System: OS type and version
  • Domain: Network domain membership

Network Information

  • IP Address: Primary IP address
  • Management IP: Administrative interface IP
  • Device Type: Specific network device classification
  • Ports: Number of available network ports
  • Management Protocols: Supported protocols (SNMP, SSH, WMI)

Hardware Information

  • Manufacturer: Hardware vendor
  • Model: Specific model number
  • CPU Cores: Number of processor cores
  • RAM (GB): Total memory capacity
  • Disk (GB): Total storage capacity
  • Purchase Date: Acquisition date
  • Warranty Expiry: End of warranty coverage

Software Information

For software CIs, additional fields include:

  • Vendor: Software publisher
  • Version: Current version installed
  • License Type: Licensing model
  • Installation Date: When software was deployed
  • End of Life: Vendor support end date
  • Host: Server or device hosting the software

Collections Tab

The Collections tab shows all data collections related to this CI:

Available Collections

  • Server Processes: Running processes on servers
  • Installed Applications: Software inventory
  • Network Adapters: Network interface details
  • Disk Information: Storage configuration
  • User Accounts: System user accounts

Collection Features

  • Real-time Data: View current state information
  • Historical Tracking: See changes over time
  • Search & Filter: Find specific collection entries
  • Export: Download collection data

Relationships Tab

The Relationships tab visualizes connections between CIs using an interactive graph:

Relationship Types

  • Installed On: Software installed on hardware
  • Depends On: Service dependencies
  • Connects To: Network connections
  • Managed By: Management relationships
  • Part Of: Component relationships

Graph Features

  • Interactive Visualization: Drag and zoom the relationship graph
  • Filter by Type: Show/hide specific relationship types
  • Depth Control: Adjust how many relationship levels to display
  • Node Details: Click nodes to view CI summaries

AI Insights Tab

AI Insights provide intelligent analysis of your CI:

Available Insights

  • Compliance Status: Security and policy compliance
  • Performance Analysis: Resource utilization trends
  • Risk Assessment: Potential issues and vulnerabilities
  • Optimization Recommendations: Suggestions for improvement
  • Relationship Analysis: Impact and dependency insights

Using AI Insights

  1. Click "Generate Insights" to create new analysis
  2. Select insight type (Compliance, Performance, etc.)
  3. View detailed recommendations
  4. Export insights for reporting

Audit History Tab

Track all changes made to the CI:

Audit Information

  • Timestamp: When the change occurred
  • User: Who made the change
  • Action: Type of modification (Create, Update, Delete)
  • Field Changes: Specific fields modified
  • Old/New Values: Before and after values

Audit Features

  • Filter by Date: View changes within time ranges
  • Filter by User: See changes by specific users
  • Export History: Download audit trail
  • Restore Values: Revert specific changes (with permissions)

Actions and Navigation

Top Bar Actions

  • Back Arrow: Return to CI list
  • Edit Button: Modify CI properties
  • Refresh: Reload current CI data

Quick Actions

  • Clone CI: Create a copy with similar properties
  • Delete CI: Remove CI (requires confirmation)
  • Export: Download CI details as JSON/CSV
  • Print: Generate printable report

Best Practices

Data Management

  1. Keep CI information up-to-date
  2. Use consistent naming conventions
  3. Fill in all relevant fields
  4. Regular review of relationships

Using Collections

  1. Enable automated discovery for accuracy
  2. Review collection data periodically
  3. Set up alerts for critical changes
  4. Archive old collection data

Relationship Management

  1. Maintain accurate relationships
  2. Document dependency reasons
  3. Review impact before changes
  4. Use relationship data for planning

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

CI Not Loading

  • Check network connectivity
  • Verify user permissions
  • Clear browser cache
  • Contact support if persists

Missing Data

  • Ensure discovery agents are running
  • Check collection permissions

  • Review data source connectivity

Performance Issues

  • Limit relationship depth
