CI Relationships
Understanding and managing relationships between Configuration Items.
Overview
CI Relationships map the connections and dependencies between different Configuration Items in your infrastructure.
Types of Relationships
Network Relationships

AI-Enhanced Relationships
NopeSight uses AI to automatically discover and classify relationships:
- Service identification
- Dependency analysis
- Impact assessment
- Risk evaluation
Relationship Visualization
Network View
The default network view shows CI relationships as an interactive graph:
- Central CI: The selected CI appears at the center
- Connected CIs: Related items arranged around the central CI
- Relationship Lines: Colored connections showing relationship types
- Hide Functionality: Right-click any CI to hide it from the view
Application Dependency Mapping (ADM)
The ADM view provides process-level visibility:
- Process Discovery: Shows which processes communicate between servers
- Interactive Exploration: Click on targets to discover listening processes
- Process Chains: Visualizes complete communication paths (e.g., Exchange → lsass → Active Directory)
- Focus Mode: Isolate specific process dependencies
To access ADM view:
- Navigate to CI Relationships
- Select "ADM" from the view mode toggle
- Click on process nodes to explore dependencies
Software View
Shows software installations and dependencies:
- Software families and applications
- Installation relationships
- Version information
Viewing Relationships
- Navigate to a CI's detail page
- Click the "Relationships" tab
- Choose your preferred view mode:
- Network: Traditional CI relationship graph
- Software: Software-focused dependencies
- ADM: Process-level application dependencies
- Use filters and search to find specific relationships
Managing Relationships
Creating Relationships
- Manual creation through the UI
- Automatic discovery via network scanning
- AI-powered relationship discovery
- Process-level discovery through ADM
Editing Relationships
- Update relationship metadata
- Change relationship types
- Add notes and documentation
Hiding CIs
To temporarily remove a CI from the visualization:
- Right-click on any CI node
- Select "Hide" from the context menu
- The CI and its connections will be removed from view
- Hidden state persists during the session
IP Address Management
NopeSight now provides enhanced IP address discovery:
- Searches multiple IP fields including arrays and JSON structures
- Automatically extracts IPs from network adapter summaries
- Supports multi-homed servers with multiple interfaces
- Migration script available to index existing IPs for faster searches
