Exploring a Workstation

This guide walks you through viewing a workstation (laptop or desktop PC) in the CMDB, including its system information, hardware details, and associated collections.

Filtering to Workstations

  1. Navigate to CMDB > CI List
  2. In the filter sidebar, click on CI Types to expand it
  3. Click on Workstation to filter the list

The table now shows only workstation CIs.

Opening Workstation Details

Click on any workstation row (e.g., DEMO-WS01) to open its detail page.

CI Details Page

The CI Details page provides comprehensive information about the selected workstation.

Header Section

  • Back button - Return to the CI list
  • CI Name and type (Workstation)
  • Status badge - Current operational status (active/inactive/maintenance)
  • Edit CI button - Modify CI attributes
  • Overview - General information and properties
  • Relationships - Connected CIs and dependencies
  • Change History - Audit trail of modifications
  • AI Insights - AI-generated analysis and recommendations
  • Relationships Workbench - Visual relationship mapping

Overview Tab Sections

System Information

For workstations, this includes:

  • Domain - Active Directory domain membership
  • OS Name - Operating system (e.g., Microsoft Windows 11 Pro)
  • OS Version - Version number (e.g., 10.0.22631)
  • OS Build - Build number

Hardware Information

  • Manufacturer - Device manufacturer (e.g., Lenovo)
  • Model - Device model (e.g., ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9)
  • Serial Number - Unique device identifier
  • CPU Model - Processor details (e.g., 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1165G7)
  • CPU Cores - Number of physical cores
  • CPU Threads - Number of logical threads
  • Memory GB - Total RAM

Network Information

  • IP Address - Assigned IP address
  • MAC Address - Network adapter hardware address
  • MAC Addresses - All network adapter addresses

Collections (Associated Data)

At the bottom of the Overview tab, you'll find tabbed collections showing related data discovered from the workstation.

Available Collections for Workstations

Disks

Physical and logical disk information:

  • Drive letters and mount points
  • Total capacity and free space
  • Disk type (SSD, HDD)
  • File system type

User Accounts

Local user accounts on the device:

  • Username
  • Account type (Admin, Standard)
  • Last login date

Network Connections

Active network connections:

  • Remote IP addresses
  • Ports and protocols
  • Connection state

Installed Applications

Software inventory:

  • Application name
  • Publisher
  • Version
  • Install date

Network Adapters

Network interface details:

  • Adapter name and type
  • IP configuration
  • DHCP status

Physical Disks

Physical storage devices:

  • Disk model
  • Capacity
  • Interface type (SATA, NVMe)

Connected Monitors

Display information:

  • Monitor manufacturer and model
  • Serial number
  • Screen size (inches)
  • Resolution capabilities
  • Year of manufacture

Peripheral Devices

USB and other connected devices:

  • Device type
  • Manufacturer
  • Connection status
