Accessing the CMDB (CI List)

The Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is the central repository for all infrastructure data discovered by NopeSight. It acts as the single source of truth for every server, network device, application, and virtual machine in your environment. All data collected by the NopeSight Scanner Agents is processed and populated here.

The primary way to view and manage this data is through the Configuration Items (CI) List.

You can access the inventory of all your hardware and other configuration items by navigating to the main CI List view.

  1. From the main navigation menu, click on CMDB.
  2. In the dropdown menu, select CI List.

This will take you to the main CI List interface, which provides a comprehensive set of tools for searching, filtering, and managing your assets.

The CI List interface

Understanding the CI List Interface

The CI List is designed for efficient exploration and management of your assets. It is composed of three main areas: the Header, the Filter Sidebar, and the CI Table.

1. Header Actions

At the top of the page, you will find several key actions:

  • Total CIs: A running count of the total number of configuration items in the database.
  • Export to CSV: Allows you to download the currently filtered list of CIs as a CSV file for offline analysis or reporting.
  • Customize Columns: Opens a dialog to show, hide, and reorder the columns in the CI table to fit your needs.
  • New CI: Opens a form to manually create a new Configuration Item.

2. Filtering and Searching

On the left side of the screen is a powerful filtering sidebar that allows you to narrow down the list of CIs.

  • Search Bar: A free-text search that queries against multiple fields like CI name, serial number, and IP address.
  • Filter by CI Type: Filter the list to show only specific types of hardware, such as Servers, Workstations, or Network Devices.
  • Filter by Status: Narrow the view based on the CI's current operational status (e.g., Active, Inactive, In Maintenance).
  • Other Filters: Additional filters for Location, Manufacturer, and External Source allow for even more granular control.

3. The CI Table

The main area of the page is the CI table, which lists all configuration items matching your current filters.

  • Columns: By default, the table displays key information such as Name, Type, Status, IP Address, Manufacturer, Model, and Last Scan date. Remember, these are customizable.
  • Sorting: You can sort the list by clicking on any column header.
  • Pagination: The controls at the bottom of the table allow you to navigate through multiple pages of results.
  • CI Actions: Hovering over a row reveals a set of quick actions:
    • View Details: Navigates to the full details page for that specific CI.
    • Edit: Opens a dialog to modify the CI's attributes.
    • Delete: Allows you to remove a CI from the CMDB.
